An Information System (IS) can be any organized combination of people, hardware, software, communications networks and data resources that stores and retrieves, transforms, and disseminates information in an organization. People have relied on information systems to communicate with each other using a variety of :
i. Physical devices (hardware)
ii. Information Processing Instructions and Procedures (software)
iii. Communications Channels (networks)
iv. Stored Data (data resources)
So, what are the different between information system and information technology?
They are two distinct concepts between those terms. According to above description, information system is the components and resources that necessary to deliver its information and functions to the organisation. In contrast, "information technology" refers to the various hardware components necessary for the system to operate. Or in the simple words, information technology are tools that people use to run the information system...
For our purposes, we will concentrate on computer-based information system which is :
i. Computer Hardware Technologies
ii. Computer Software Technologies
iii. Telecommunications Network Technologies
iv. Data Resource Management Technologies
